Your chamber membership supports important economic development projects in the region and lends your voice to other business and civic leaders who are working together to keep our communities strong.
N2 Innovation District Initiative: The N2 Innovation District is an area of roughly 500 acres along the Newton-Needham line that includes two
office parks and adjacent commercial streets. The N2 Innovation District project is a private-public collaboration between the Newton-Needham Chamber and its member businesses along with the City of Newton and Town of Needham to promote economic development. Charles River Mill District: The Charles River Mill District is a public-private partnership between the Newton-Needham Chamber, The Watertown-Belmont Chamber, the City of Newton, the City of Watertown, the City of Waltham and local businesses and property owners in and around the district. Our objective is to collaborate and advocate for infrastructure and regional transit improvements and on the overall marketing and promotion of the district. Economic and legislative panels and presentations: Each year the Chamber hosts meetings and panels designed to update members on the latest economic trends, legislative activities and developments, as well as opportunities to meet with municipal and state elected leaders and appointed officials.
Public policy advocacy: The Chamber identifies and researches public policy issues that affect business at the state, regional and local levels. Surveying our members and getting feedback from informed parties on both sides of the issue, the Chamber will on occasions support or oppose legislation or projects based on the best interests of its membership and the larger business community.
Infrastructure advocacy: The Chamber advocates on behalf of the business community for improvements to the region’s infrastructures, including road, mass transit, bicycle and pedestrian upgrades. The Chamber is also a resource for members who need assistance and guidance with snow removal, street and sidewalk maintenance, working with utilities and other concerns.
Communication: You can count on the Chamber for timely updates on a variety of issues of importance to the economic and cultural vitality of our communities, including road and bridge work, major real estate and hiring trends, personnel changes, businesses in the news, regulatory changes, grants and other resources.
ShopLocal/BankLocal/DineLocal and GiveLocal: The Chamber develops programs and initiatives to encourage local support of retail, banking, restaurants and non-profits within the Newton-Needham area. Efforts have included a chamber-produced video campaign spotlighting local businesses, cash mobs, an annual holiday Arts Shop and Stroll, Spring Seasonings restaurant showcase, and afternoon drop-in networking at locally owned member businesses.
