Bobbitt came to Watertown’s New Repertory Theatre in 2019 after serving as the artistic director for Adventure Theatre in Maryland since 2007. He is an arts leader, director, choreographer and playwright whose work has been featured on the national and international level. Since joining New Rep, Bobbitt has transformed the nonprofit’s culture, implemented strategies to secure financial sustainability and positioned the organization as a model of successful anti-racist and multicultural theater. His innovation focuses on eradicating oppressive financial structures (subscriptions, season planning, and inaccessible physical spaces), attracting patrons and artists of color, and building community in partnership with other organizations. Since the theater went dark due to the pandemic, Bobbitt has led online conversations for patrons and rallied peers within the arts community, continuing to innovate and be a voice for change.
