decades of delays, funding has been secured to redesign a two-mile stretch Needham Street and Highland Avenue, with construction scheduled
to start in 2018.
The project would stretch roughly two miles, from Webster Street in Needham to Route 9 in Newton. It would widen sidewalks, improve intersections, add bikes lanes and crossing signals and rehabilitate the bridge over the Charles River.
In addition, Newton and Needham has received a $3.3 million state MassWorks grant for Needham to begin work between First and Second avenues and
for Newton to reconfigure the intersection around Oak and
Christina streets. Work on projects are scheduled to be done in 2017.
Linked below are three sets of plans provided by the state on Oct. 5, 2016. PLEASE NOTE THESE ARE DRAFT PLANS NOT SUITABLE FOR CONSTRUCTION - THEY ARE NOT FINAL DESIGN PLANS
